Humidity SMS Alerts: Part Selection

As mentioned in the introductory post, this project will, at the very least, require the selection of a controller, a cellular device to send and receive SMS messages, and a humidity sensor.

For the cellular component I have chosen the Arch GPRS V2. Unfortunately, as this is a 2G unit, I’m fairly sure it will only work until the end of 2016 for Telstra and April 2017 for Optus networks.

The advantage of this module though is that you can program the controller on it using the mbed platform, removing the need to add another controller such as an Arduino. So I am able to tick off two requirements with the one module.

The humidity sensor is a Grove sensor. While I am not familiar with  this line of products, according to its Wiki, the ARCH GPRS V2 is directly compatible with these sensors.
